Speak Music to Me and I Will be Your Symphony.

The other day at court, while I was waiting for the proceedings to begin, I indulged in a random conversation with my co-intern. Like always, we had plenty of spare time to look around and wonder how hard it is to pursue a career in litigation. But it was music that we talked about, instead. He asked me about my taste. No, actually before that he asked me whether I listen to music at all. You tell me..do I look like a person who doesn’t listen to music? Duh! So the first name that popped up in my head was that of Coldplay. If you haven’t heard Coldplay, go stand in front of the mirror, introspect for a minute and die. That is what a voice in my head yelled when he asked Coldplay? Is that a band?

Wait...the story didn’t end there. He was alien to every other song I mentioned. After giving him a dumbstruck look I shot the same question at him. It was heart-breaking to listen to a list which included crappiest songs and artists- Akon, Enrique, Pitbull, 50 Cent, Chammak Challo, Honey Singh and in support of which he said ‘Ajkal ke youth ko yehi pasand hai.’ (Today’s youth enjoy this music). But where is the 'music', I wondered. At that very moment, an entirely new side of me came to light. I felt so repulsed by him. It was like a stream of repulsion that was flowing out of his mouth as he spoke of those names. Over dramatic? Am I? Oh c’mon, he disliked Coldplay’s ‘Fix you’.

Still over-dramatic?

I narrated this hopelessly sad incident to a friend who has an impressive choice in this field and he just smiled. For he told me that he has felt the same with many and it doesn’t bother him anymore.

Just like what wise people teach, you grow with time. You evolve with time. You learn to absorb shocks like these with time.

For now, I have got this song which I stumbled upon my song hunting spree last night and the night before. Did I tell you that youtube has a side where every song on the side panel is totally new and it takes you on a  roller coaster ride? People there call it 'YouTube Narnia'. :D

Listen and appreciate quality music:

    1. And that is one of the saddest sides of advancement.

But I'm glad to have people with good taste in music, around. Thank you so much for showing interest in the song I posted. :-)

  4. Now I'm reading this from my phone so can't really see the YouTube link. But I agree with your friend. I've stopped discussing music with the new people in my life. It doesn't matter anymore! And YouTube Narnia is one of my fav places to be!!

Try the band Morphine. You'll like them :)

P.S.: Your co-intern is a zombie for having no knowledge of Coldplay.

    1. That is exactly what my friend advised me. :-)

YouTube Narnia is an instant addiction, boy! And tonight it's going to be Morphine. :-)

Haha...Zombie...yeah right! He is the biggest chu chu I've ever met. And I've started avoiding him since that heart-breaking conversation. :P

  5. Mainstream has never been my cup of tea. You'll hate me but I include coldplay in that category, although I like the song you have in your link!

Whenever anyone says "akon" etc. I automatically tune out. Oh, humans.

What I appreciate is the fact that you are not into Akon. THANK GOD!!

  6. "If you haven't heard of Coleplay, go look in a mirror, introspect for a minute and then die" :D *love it*
People who go through my iPod always complain about the lack of "doof doof" music (as I like to call them - because all their beats tend to be the same) and all I have is tracks by Queen, Pink, Coleplay, Daughtry etc. Is it my fault they have no sense of culture nor appreciation for music with proper lyrics and no ability to listen to anything else that doesn't rap/whine about sex and dancing in a club?

No :D and I am thankful I am not one of them.

Thanks a lot for dropping by and sharing your choice of music. Hope to see you around often. :-)

  7. I am gonna say something very obvious but i really want you to get this "all people have different taste in music"
it would be very shallow of us to despise people for their choice of music. Imagine a world where everyone listens to Coldplay and there are no other genres.how dull and tasteless life would be!
music is a part of your personality and all people are different.
the diversity is what makes life so beautiful.
without hearing the "doof doof" or "dhikchik dhikchik" you would have never appreciated the music you hear now.
unlimited sights sounds colours is what life is all about.
so don't fight it embrace it.

    1. *nods rigorously in agreement*

However, I do believe in appreciating the company of people having similar and smart choice. After all I wasn't doing any good to myself by spending time with a person telling me about Enrique's or Pitbull's music most of the time. :D

So you see, I understand that diversity makes us acknowledge the good around but you have to agree that this present scenario has seen depreciated quality of music, be it Hollywood or Bollywood.

  8. Haha, I sort of like your choice of music. And even though my taste of music is absolutely parallel to the type mentioned by the guy, I still don't think we should be condescending towards his taste. :-p
I mean...we are all different. And music is...music. Nothing like good or bad. Just different, you know?
